All About the Uncommon Players
Honing skills - great plays
In 2009, seeing the wealth of local theatre-making talent around the area and observing the dearth of quality productions of well-written plays, Common Players devised a project called Uncommon Players
This erratic and enthusiastic group meets to enjoy workshops about aspects of theatre craft, reads plays and seeks to develop skill and opportunity for regional performers who might not describe themselves as professionals. Members range from skilled and committed amateurs to people from local educational establishments aspiring to a professional career.Producing the highest quality productions is the ambition, and giving people the chance to see them. To date we have produced three productions in association with Exeter Northcott: Speaking in Tongues by Andrew Bovell, Talking Heads by Alan Bennett and Educating Rita by Willy Russell have opened in Exeter’s main theatre venue and then toured around the Westcountry.
In 2013 with Exeter Bikeshed Theatre we led a three-week festival of Samuel Becketts’ work featuring our production of Endgame. Uncommon Players is always keen to grow and expand, so if you are interested please get in touch.
